The Final Stretch

We successfully arrive in Anchorage with Vanessa and her parents. Once we drop her parents off at the airport we all head to Moose's Tooth for supposedly the best pizza in town. They have good pizza and beer... i don't know about the best though. Vanessa drops us off at our hotel and off she goes.

This definitely is not the fanciest hotel but it was cheap and has a bed and shower... we don't ask for much. Laying in a bed waiting to go home is a nice comfort. The only bad thing was that it felt like the hotel had the heat on... it was so hot in the room. Sometimes the cheapest isn't always the best option. :/

We don't leave our hotel room too often, just a quick bike ride to get something to eat (Moose's Tooth one more time just because) and a couple shops to "entertain" us. Our last night we ate at 49th State Brewery and i had the best Almost "chicken" philly.... it was one of the best meals i had!!!

Finally the day has come that we get to go home! Jimmy could not be happier! We bike to REI to get a box and pack up our bikes and then wait an hour for a taxi. We get to the airport around 2:30pm and our flight is not until 9:30pm.... to make the waiting period even better, you cannot check in until 3 hours before your flight. Netflix and cards it is!!

A few moments before we can start boarding two guys ask if we would be willing to give up our seats for them and they would pay us $200 each. I instantly want to say yes but talk it over with Jimmy... i guess that's what you do in a marriage, consult with the other half. You can tell Jimmy is a little hesitant but does love to get easy money! We finally say yes and you can tell the guys are so relieved. They missed their first flight and could just tell in their faces that they really wanted/needed to get home. They said we should have good karma coming our way but we look at it as paying it forward since Liz "saved" us!!

With $400 in our pocket and now spending the night at the airport we are off to find a "comfortable" place to sleep! We go to an upstairs lounge but no matter how or where you sleep the floor is not a comfortable place at all. We are lucky to get a hour of sleep at a time. Finally about 2:30am we go downstairs near the gates to get a bench to sleep on but it's freezing down there so back up we go. They have an area with lounge-ish chairs and a tv so we resort to that as our option of sleeping. It is quite amazing how many people and kids are at the airport at 3:00 in the morning.

We managed to get a couple of hours of sleep in before we couldn't do it anymore. Now the waiting game begins again, we are becoming really good at this game! The next flight is at 2:55pm so we have some time to kill. This time Jimmy came up with a new card game, see who can throw the most cards in Jimmy's rain boots.....he won. We really need to get out, we are starting to go crazy.

Since we are on standby jimmy wants to make sure we are the first ones on the list sooooo we go to stand in line at the check out counter at 10:30am knowing it does not open until noon. We definitely are the first ones in line... and then we wait again. Get checked in and back through security, now we wait to see if anyone misses their flight so we can have their seats and hope that our luggage arrived in Minnesota this morning!
