Trial run - day 4

Wednesday May 23, 2018

total mileage: 32.19

To Duluth for real this time. Had a great morning, Jimmy made Katie coffee. We played cards while making spaghetti and leisurely packed up our things before heading out. It was the perfect morning, just what Katie needed. We made it about .4 miles before we actually saw our first real wildlife. The 3 ticks this morning didn't count, 2 on the tent and 1 on a pannier...not coming on the ride big guy! Our first true wildlife was crossing the trail, it was a porcupine. It was so cool looking just crossing the trail so nonchalan. Jimmy wasn't paying attention and almost ran into it...that would have hurt!

Three miles into the day Katie's back tire was going flat. We only needed to make it about 20 miles today, it could make for a long day! Luckily we filled it with air and hoping it would get us to Duluth. Coming close to the End of the Munger trail we could see Duluth. We are so close to our end point, it's literally in site! This part of the trail is so cool, it's not just straight!! Through rock passages, some hills and curves, we are definitely "up North" now!!!

Into the industrial part of Duluth making our way to the lakefront we go. Jimmy got stung by a bee.... finally some bad luck for him... ha ha. Right after we got another spare tube for Katie.

We have officially made it to Canal Park/the Lift Bridge in Duluth!!!! What an amazing feeling!! 21.64 to caribou for a well deserved coffee and tea before heading another 10 miles to Japser's and a shower! It was exciting to bike into Duluth knowing it was a final destination. A cold coffe at Caribou and a moment to relax made the trip worth it so far.

Over the bridge, through some alleys to Jasper's house we go! We have arrived, we have officially completed our tour to Duluth!!!!!!!!!!

175.69 total miles and we still have smiles on our faces! There were some bad times but overall it was a good experience. Katie now has a better idea of what Alaska will bring..... just on a much larger/massive/grander scale!

After doing this trip and talking with Jasper, who has done everything under the sun, Katie feels a little better for July 8. There will be good and bad times, times where you will hate life and question everything, but the end result will be worth every sweat, tear and pain. WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!!!

Thank you Jasper for your hospitality and tour of the North Shore!

We are now off to Utah and the east coast for some fun!!

chat soon world :)
