Jimmy's starting to get really down with everything.... now he realized that when he gets home he has no car (since he sold it to Debbie).... now he's even more down and kind of crabby. We have decided to spend a couple more days in Fairbanks and then start heading south to Seward on the trains. Move into our tent at Svens (which has "spoiled" us with having a shower and kitchen and people and PUPPIES) and decided to cruise around downtown Fairbanks for the next few days.
We stop by REI to get new 'luggage' so we don't have 4 panniers, instead just put them into one bag :) cruise to the coffee shop to book our trains tickets to Denali, then anchorage, and then Seward! We have had PLENTY of card games, which Jimmy has kicked my butt, and lots of time to read our books. We stopped at the Post Office to see if we could get our package in Coldfoot sent to Seward.... only to find out we cannot forward a standard package. Of course we can't, now we wait until Coldfoot is open to see if they can just forward our package.
We are starting to get a plan into action so hopefully this will help Jimmy feel a little eased. Now with our train tickets purchased we just need to figure out how we will get back to Minnesota. Not traveling by bikes anymore has really cut into our budget so our 4 month adventure will turn into a month adventure. Alaska is not a cheap place to travel, a $50 a day budget gets eaten up REALLY quickly when you start to buy transportation and lodging.
We did get to talk with our parents which was nice. We got to see Zeus run around barking... we miss him so much. I think seeing Zeus is the most exciting thing we are looking forward too!!
The morning before we left for Denali Jimmy bought tickets to fly home August 3. He is so over everything that he just wants to be home. We felt good until the website had to confirm the credit card with the phone number and of course Jimmy's phone doesn't work. After 5 hours of lots of phone calls back and forth between the credit card company and the website, lots of minutes on hold and irritation/anger growing quickly we officially have tickets to fly to Minnesota August 3..... never go through cheapfareguru.com horrible experience!!
We were going to go to North Pole, Ak but since we have wasted half of our day dealing with that big ticket ordeal we just go out for dinner and beer at a Mexican restaurant. We heard North Pole isn't anything special and not worth our time so no hard feelings missing that. After dinner we head over to Pioneer Park to walk around. Interesting park to walk around but it's FREE and historical so it was good. They have live music there every night so we stopped and listened to the performer for awhile. Then back to Svens for one last shower.
We got about 20 miles in on our bike the last two days which felt good. Hopefully attitudes will get better once we are no the move again!
